Everything you wanted to
know about getting divorced in Ontario but found
out too late...
From 1988 to 1998 I was a lawyer with my own
practice in downtown Toronto. I did a great deal of
work in the areas of divorce, custody and access
disputes, separation agreements, marriage
contracts, and child and spousal support. I
appeared in all levels of Ontario courts, including
the Court of Appeal, the Divisional Court and
the Federal Court of Canada.
I am Past President of the Lawyers Club and
taught at the Bar Admission Course for
five years. I also wrote a fairly dull paper called
"A Guide to Family Law Mediation" that was
published by the Canadian Bar Association.
Alas, I gave up the practice of law in 1998
to go into business, but I still get to wear the nifty lawyer
robes at Hallowe'en to scare the kids.
After several years I have finally taken down my old family law web
pages. Mine was one of the
earlier family law web sites in Ontario, but there are much
better and current ones available now. Have a look at my
collection of other Family Law &
Legal Links on the Net.
Please, don't email me asking
for family law advice - I can't give it. I've
left private practice and by law I am no longer able to give
advice to private individuals. There are lots of good family
lawyers out there (sorry, I can't do referrals either). Please
have a look through the web or contact the Law
Society of Upper Canada, which will be happy to give you a
list of lawyers who specialize in this area.
Finally, don't rely on
what you see here or any other website. Always consult a practicing
lawyer who specializes in family law before you do
anything dumb.
